Hi, I’m Dee, the founder of Us Pronunciation. I’ve taught pronunciation for five years and I’ve lived in five countries. I’m a native English speaker from Canada, a linguistics graduate, a professional singer, and I speak four languages.

I know firsthand how an accent can impact our lives, even when we speak the language fluently.

When I was a teenager, our family moved to Scotland where I attended high school. For the first few months I couldn’t understand a word people said! Even though Scottish people speak English, the pronunciation is so different from American English, I struggled. Slowly, I built my listening skills, and then adopted a Scottish accent and life improved.

I had an AHA! moment. I realized for the first time that clear communication is about more than knowing how to speak a language. Even though we were all native English speakers our accents impacted our ability to communicate clearly. That early experience has shaped my mission: to make expert pronunciation training affordable and inclusive so non native English speakers can gain confidence, be understood, and feel a stronger sense of belonging.
